British luxury eyewear brand Cutler and Gross, founded in 1969, creates sunglasses and optical frames with signature creativity and an excellent quality.

Since its establishment in fashion, Cutler and Gross has been synonymous with quintessential British style, creativity and craftsmanship.

craftmanship-cutler-and-grossconnoisseur facts: The brand’s eyewear was initially hand made by legendary frame maker George Smith, who had a workshop above Cutler and Gross’ first boutique in Knightsbridge, London. Smith’s wife, Frances, hand dyed all the lenses.

In a perfect blend of handcrafted heritage and bold design, the brand produces the highest quality frames in Cadore, Italy since since it outgrew its small workshop back in the ’80s.

Here highly skilled craftsmen take pride in preserving and developing the artisanal tradition in eyewear manufacturing. Nestled in the mountains not far from Austria, the region is known as a center of high-quality frame construction, and the company just launched a video to highlight and celebrate that tradition.

Craftsmanship is at the core of our brand and we believe the luxury is in the quality of our frames,” says creative director Marie Wilkinson. The production process undergoes 42 tailored steps: “Our craftsmen still use traditional artisan techniques when creating the eyewear. Each frame takes four to six weeks to produce, and the process involves many steps from design to cutting, barrelling, bending, hinge insertion, polishing, and quality control. Every step is completed by hand.”
